Wave Raiser was born in Calgary in a flood year. All our surfable waves were wiped out and with nothing left to surf we came together as a group to raise the funds we needed to build what is the Mountain wave today. As the Event Director I was responsible for the creation of the event, designing a fundraising strategy and recipe for the night. We continue to follow the same recipe three years later and our fundraising efforts have amounted to over $30,000. I wanted to the surfers of Calgary really feel like this event was their own and for those new to the community to get a real sense of the Calgary surfer vibe. I think this theme can be applied to other landlocked surf communities.
